2022 Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley, Salon Select

Pale straw color in the glass, crystal clear. Aromas of pears, cut hay and candied apricot. On the palate the wine shows bright acidity and fresh floral notes, with more varietal profile of white peach & crisp green apple flavors. The finish is crisp and silky with lingering flavors. Enjoy by itself or with jalapeno ceviche and Baja fish tacos with salsa verde.

Winemaker Notes

Hand picked and delivered to the winery where it was destemmed and gently pressed. The juice was given 24 hours to settle out the heavy solids after which the clean juice was racked off the heavy lees to tank. Fermented slowly at low temperatures until dry. The wine was then stabilized, preventing malolactic fermentation taking place before being lightly filtered and bottled.

Vintage Notes

2022 was known as “the tale of two harvests,” making it one of the more unique vintages in recent history. Bud break started in Carneros and throughout some mountain appellations and the vines showed strong shoot growth and average crop yields. Early July kicked off veraison and August provided warm days and cool nights, perfect for ripening. Then in September, a 5-day-long heat wave in the triple digits hit Napa Valley, which shifted farming and harvest plans. Soon following the heat spike, Napa Valley received 0.6 – 1.2 inches of rainfall pushing our crews to open canopies for airflow, allowing clean fruit to be harvested. We’ll remember 2022 as a vintage of craze and beauty.

Vineyard Notes

The 2022 sourcing saw a move to our new vineyard in St. Helena. It is situated on fluvial soils deposited from the ever-changing course of the Napa River. Benefitting from good drainage, the vines have perfect exposure and readily available nutrients. The farming uses quad trellising to protect the grapes from too much sun exposure, allowing for a long hang time with plenty of time for the grapes to ripen to their full potential.
