2022 Pinot Grigio Lake County

The 2022 Pinot Grigio shines pale yellow, almost silver like in the glass. Aromas of ripe guava, stone fruit, lime, apricot, peach, and floral jasmine jump from the glass with a slight touch of tannins on the finish, increasing the crisp, lingering taste. The palate showcases a slight minerality driven chalkiness accompanied by additional refreshing stone fruit. Enjoy by itself or with linguini with clams, baked lemon chicken and classic fish and chips.

Winemaker Notes

Handpicked and delivered to the winery where it was destemmed and gently pressed. The juice was given 24 hours to settle out the heavy solids after which the clean juice was racked off the heavy lees to tank. Fermented slowly at low temperatures until dry. The wine was then stabilized, preventing malolactic fermentation taking place before being lightly filtered and bottled.

Vintage Notes

2022 was called a tale of two harvests. A relatively normal growing season began in March with strong vine growth throughout summer. Then, from August to mid-September it was intense and fast-paced. The rain in mid-September created a gap and sudden halt to harvest. The fruit that came in during the second round had beautiful mild weather in early October and lots of time to get to perfect ripeness. 2022 white wines showcase perfect acidity and freshness with remarkable flavors and textures, and red wines display excellent structure with deep red colors, luxurious tannins, and exquisite fruit-forward aromatics.

Vineyard Notes

Our Pinot Grigio comes from the Long Valley grape growing region of Lake County. This beautiful area just 5 miles east of Clear Lake features a long, narrow valley floor between surrounding mountains and is comprised of ancient lakebeds and alluvial soils from the surrounding mountain range. The transverse valley winds create some of the coolest sites in Lake County and the lower temperatures on the valley floor allow for diurnal temperature swings of more than forty degrees, enhancing flavor development while retaining crisp acidity in white wines.
